The Hungry Vegan has launched the first nationwide
all-vegan, organic meal delivery service. Though some local vegan and vegetarian meal delivery services are scattered around the country, this is the first company of its kind.
All of the food is prepared using organic ingredients – from fresh produce all the way down to the spices.
Because vegans often are faced with few food choices, The Hungry Vegan offers a new menu each week.
Menus are pre-set but always include twelve different items: two soups, two desserts, and eight grain, legume, and vegetable dishes. The foods range from comfort foods, like warming soups and winter chili, to more gourmet items, such as roulades, stuffed vegetables, and fresh, flavored pastas with exotic sauces. The Hungry Vegan also includes world cuisines in its menus, such as Thai, Indian, Egyptian, Moroccan, Ethiopian, Burmese and Mexican.
The food is shipped in boxes via overnight or two-day delivery. When customers receive their boxes, they can mix and match the food and eat any size portion they wish. The Hungry Vegan reports that the food provides about 5-7 days of lunches and dinners for most of its customers. The food can be frozen as well.
Customers are under no obligation to order. However, The Hungry Vegan provides a discount to those who order for four weeks at a time or who subscribe to its “Meals for Forever” service. It also offers gift certificates, which are great for new parents, busy students and professionals, and those who are convalescing. Most of the company’s customers are those who don’t have the time or the interest to cook for themselves or who want to make the switch to being vegan but don’t know how. The Hungry Vegan also delivers meals to hotels for its customers who have to travel.
